New photos: St. Pete Pier District buildings in place, interior work underway

Construction is moving along for the new 26-acre St. Pete Pier District. The roof for the Pier Head building will be placed soon, a pier spokeswoman said in explaining the next steps for the district. The pier head building will house three restaurant concepts designed by BDG Architects including an upscale restaurant called Teak, a rooftop bar called Pier Teaki and a café, Driftwood Café. The work for the entire district is expected to open in spring next year. It is anticipated that the district will attract 1.7 million people a year.

Construction is moving along for the new 26-acre St. Pete Pier District.

The latest batch of photos from the city show that the vertical buildings are nearly complete. It also shows the coastal thicket landscaping and tilted lawn being worked on. The roof for the Pier Head building will be placed soon, a pier spokeswoman said in explaining the next steps for the district. The pier head building will house three restaurant concepts including an upscale restaurant called Teak, a rooftop bar called Pier Teaki and a café, Driftwood Café. There will also be a bait shop that will complement the fishing dock that will be situated at the very tip of the pier. The city has turned over the Discovery Center to tenant Tampa Bay Watch which is doing interior work and work on its exhibits.

Meanwhile, onshore, Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille has also been turned over to the tenant for its finishing work and ocean-themed playground equipment has been installed. Near the playground will be a plaza where there will be a tenant to serve food and beverages and a splash pad. There are also a number of smaller projects such as shading and lawn work for Spa Beach Park and art installation including Artist Janet Echelman’s net sculpture.

Skanska leads construction of the district. The work for the entire district is expected to cost $92 million and will open in spring next year. The district is expected to attract 1.7 million people a year.
