To celebrate its 125th anniversary while reducing its footprint and maintaining its Brooklyn roots, HKS designed a new headquarters and Children’s Learning Center that reflects both its legacy and forward-looking mission. The space features braille-inspired tactile wall elements in the entrance and lobby, engaging users symbolically and functionally. Designed with sensitivity to noise and light, it includes dimmable lighting, high-NRC ceiling materials, acoustical wallcoverings, and padded, high-contrast flooring to support spatial navigation. Key program areas—such as a learning kitchen, eye examination lab, and flexible conference center—are enhanced by integrated, cost-effective telecommunications and videoconferencing systems. The result is a thoughtful, inclusive environment that fosters learning, collaboration, and innovation.
