BDG Architects is working with the Related Group and the Tampa Housing Authority on redeveloping the City of Tampa’s 120-acre West River community. The Boulevard at West River is a 473-unit mixed-income community compromised of four 8-story residential buildings, two parking garages, 12,000 SF of amenity spaces, 8,000 SF of retail, and two 3-story townhome-style buildings with thirty-two residential units and a covered parking portico. This community-driven project provides safe and attainable housing to multigenerational families across all income brackets. Affordable housing projects like The Boulevard at West River continue to shape the Downtown Tampa area into a top destination for residents to live, work, and play.
The Grand Opening celebration of 3 of the 4 towers at The Boulevard at West River took place on Wednesday, Sept. 29th. The mixed-use buildings will offer both affordable housing and market-rate apartments with a total of 371 units located on the west side of the Hillsborough River across from downtown Tampa. Well done to Mark Chmielewski, Brian Hammond, Jeff Yeasting, and the entire project team!

Standing in a West Tampa parking lot, Mayor Jane Castor pledged Wednesday to increase affordable housing stock in the city by 2027 to keep the state’s third-largest city from suffering the fate of real-estate hothouses like San Francisco and Boston. In announcing the recommendations of an advisory housing task force, the mayor noted that less than 5 percent of the housing built last year in Tampa met the criteria for affordability. There is no easy answer to the problem, she acknowledged. But she vowed to partner with Hillsborough County and state and federal government to find solutions.
