BDG Architects designed the three nautical-inspired restaurants located within the Pier Point building at the new St. Pete Pier: Teak, Driftwood Café and Pier Teaki. Teak is an elevated casual restaurant with bay and city views to connect the interior with the exterior and an open kitchen to heighten the customer experience. The location provided the inspiration for the restaurant’s name, a nod to the water-resistant hardwood often used in the manufacturing of boats. The main dining room is outfitted with a driftwood centerpiece and boats hanging from the ceiling. Driftwood Café, on the ground level, is a small food service installation connected to the tilted lawn with a walk-up seating area or the option of “grab-n-go”. Pier Teaki was modeled as a modern take on the classic tiki bar complete with tiki huts. The tiki-themed accoutrements range from a 15-foot tiki god to 20 tiki totems, all sourced from local design firm Creative Arts and the St. Petersburg-based Tiki-Mondo. The three restaurants are under the same local ownership as the nearby Birchwood. A long time in the making, St. Petersburg has a new icon and BDG Architects is proud to be a part of this project, which is an impressive addition to the already beautiful waterfront.
BDG Architects was fortunate to work with Chuck Prather on his latest restaurant concepts at the new St. Pete Pier. We partnered with Birchwood Development on another downtown St. Pete destination, The Birchwood Inn, visible from the new St. Pete Pier. Read more here.
