Our team was selected by Stetson University College of Law to master plan the 6.3-acre old police station site on Tampa Street, and to design the buildings for the law school's new Tampa campus.
The facility was designed in the Mediterranean Revival style to emulate Stetson's Gulfport campus, complete with an easily identifiable tower structure. The master plan for the site projects a total of 290,000 sq. ft. with 4 buildings and a multi-level parking garage. Phase 1 was the three-story, 73,000 sq. ft. academic/administration building overlooking the campus quadrangle designed by FleischmanGarcia. It includes a full teaching courtroom facility that is utilized by faculty and students for mock trials. The courtroom is also used by the Florida Second District Court of Appeals for actual hearings. The Florida Second District Court of Appeals occupies the entire third floor of the facility. The spaces include judge's chambers and support facilities.
The Phase 1 building and tower have become an icon in the redevelopment of the northern section of downtown Tampa.
